Hi,
The discovery of GMR was truly a milestone event in physics, and it marked
the beginning of "Spintronics Era" in physics and technology. On Monday,
Dr. Jansen will give a Colloquium lecture on GMR, so those who don't know
yet what GMR is and how it works, WILL learn! However, the GMR mechanism
is not a trivial issue. So, if you don't know much yet about GMR, and you
want to clearly understand the Moday lecture, it may be a good idea to
visit the following address:
http://urlcut.com/GMRtutorial
where you will find a "simple-minded GMR tutorial". Actually, this is my
slide presentation which I gave at the Solid State and Optics Seminar
on Jan. 23. The first part (slides 3-33) is strictky about GMR, because I
wanted to
stress that the neutron research we are doing on magnetic semiconductors
is "linked" to the mainstreem spintronics research.
Especially, I recommend going to Slide #17, where you will see not only a
picture of Prof. Albert Fert (The Nobel winner) personally
autographed by him, but in the right upper corner you will find a
clickable link -- and when you click on it, you will hear a magnificent
performance of the French National Anthem by Roberto Alagna, a leading
French tenor whose fame may eventually eclipse that of the legendary
Lucjano Pavarotti!
I want to make this slide show a "permanent" part of my research page, so
I'm working on adding a voice narration to it. I will aprreciate any
comments that might help me to make the slide show better, if there are
some things that are not totally clear, etc.
Sincerely,
Tom
